I had the chance to look at my mother's paint palette yesterday. Those wells of green (pictured above) were just so lovely, like hills by the sea, I just had to share them with you. Also it was interesting to see the colors she chooses. She paints primarily landscapes these days & her palette reflects that. I learned a lot just by looking at her palette & find it interesting. I wonder which of my friends palettes I will request to see next? Stick around & find out. Happy Thursday y'all!

I came across this word & think that it could have been written about my process of making. Aleatory describes the material interaction point that I am always chasing. Glad to know the word for it. Happy Monday Y'all!
7"x10" Arches 140lb. Hot Press, Winsor & Newton Payne's Grey, Sumi Bright Gold, American Painter Brush Round 1, Morton's Kosher Salt
Last week Lydia Makepeace of Kiteflier posted some images of watercolors she had done using salt?! I was so excited by the possibilities that I had to make some for myself. I think that the Layers of the Earth series I have been working on lends itself nicely to this technique & I am so excited to explore this further. Both of these painting are 7"x10", on Arches 120lb. Hot Press, using Winsor & Newton Payne's Grey with lots of water & salt. Happy Monday Y'all! These are much more "design-y" then my usual pieces, but I find them funny. Sometimes you don't need a lot of words to adeptly convey an idea. And I am thinking about making some more of these... What do y'all think?
This past Friday I had the opportunity to visit The Hyde Collection in Glens Falls, New York. They currently have a lovely collection of Georgia O'Keeffe's work from the time she spent at Lake George, which is close by. I was very encouraged by her professional trajectory & the curators interpretations of her work. There were numerous pieces I had never seen before, which is always exciting, particularly when you have culled through vast tomes on a specific artist. If you are in the area or even passing by I would strongly encourage you to visit this collection. The show is open until September 15. Maria Popova wrote a great Brain Pickings article about Bill Watterson, of Calvin & Hobbes fame, that I took this quote from. I firmly hold to Rilke's "Live the questions" philosophy & the Window Questions experiement played with that. What questions are you living with today? |
