These two things are abundant in the Lowcountry. As I have taken more photographs of my surroundings in the attempt to understand my camera I have noticed more acutely the patterns of these objects. Hope your week is going well!

I came across this celery display & it made me smile. Hope it brings a smile to your Friday too! Enjoy your weekend Y'all!
Field Report: Yesterday I modified another brush. I was hoping for a triangle pattern. Below are the some results from my initial exploration. The results are mixed, but I remain hopeful. Perhaps I will see clearer results today. I recently purchased an inexpensive multi-brush pack so I could try out a bunch of brushes seemed gimmicky to me, but that I was intrigued by. The comb brush was a huge hit! I love the fun shape it creates! The top painting used Winsor & Newton Permanent Rose; the bottom painting was done in Winsor & Newton Payne's Grey.
Yesterday I tried this technique on a much larger sheet of paper: 18"x24". The advantage in that is when viewing you are able to enter the piece completely. You eye isn't constantly hitting an edge & there is enough detail to keep you engaged.
Arches Hot Press 140lb. 18"x24", Winsor & Newton Payne's Grey, Morton's Kosher Salt, American Painter Round 1 & Sumi Gold Last week Lydia Makepeace of Kiteflier posted some images of watercolors she had done using salt?! I was so excited by the possibilities that I had to make some for myself. I think that the Layers of the Earth series I have been working on lends itself nicely to this technique & I am so excited to explore this further. Both of these painting are 7"x10", on Arches 120lb. Hot Press, using Winsor & Newton Payne's Grey with lots of water & salt. Happy Monday Y'all! I often pursue the material interaction point in my work. Todays paintings were done on Arches Hot Press with Winsor & Newton Indigo Watercolor Paint, & A LOT of water! Hope your week is going well!
