How we depict G-D influences our understanding of
G-D. This was the thesis of my first seminary paper in 2017. One of the artworks that supported this conclusion was by Harmonia Rosales. Four of her paintings are now on display alongside Medieval religious manuscripts at the Getty. Seeing this show was a confirmation that all of the work and "radical" thought I presented during those formative years was aligned with a broader conversation. Rosales paintings are skilled in the painterly sense and filled with considerations of historic import. This detailed photo from her "Creation" painting documents the traditional European Medieval motifs like the gold halo and blue sky with stars, in addition to hyper-realistic depiction of G-D and flowers. Additionally, there is the sculptural snake embraced with acceptance in this narrative. Overall Rosales work gifts the viewer hope, that the cosmos is one of communion, that a peaceable kingdom is here in our midst.
