Most mornings I read an article or two in The New York Times before I start work on the blog post for the day. This gets my brain engaged & raises my cognitive awareness from nil to semi-cogent. This mornings article A Passage to India about Isla Van Damme a.k.a. Loulou reminded me of Karen Blixen & her stories, most notably Out of Africa. Both of these women have a strong sense of place that is clearly reflected in their work. While my 20's were spent in a distinct peregrination, I am now coming up on four years of living in one place. Shocking especially as it is a place I never thought I would live. And by never I mean the thought NEVER crossed my mind that I would be living on an island off the coast of South Carolina. However I am thankful & think that these current Aerial Views are a direct result from living here & spending time immersed in maritime forest & tidal waterways. Yay for the Lowcountry! Happy Friday Y'all!

I get lost in all of the little universes that happen in the salt & paint interactions. Happy Thursday Y'all!
Sometimes you just have to paint & leave the talking about/ figuring out to the critics (everybody's a critic) & art historians. I think that is what I am doing with this series. Since I resolved the incongruencies between the Winsor & Newton and Dr. Ph. Martin's I have very little to say on the matter of these paintings. I am thoroughly enjoying the process of making them & don't want to complicate it by over-analysis. So with that I will say the rest of the week might just be paintings & no words... we will see. Happy Wednesday Y'all!

In human life, art may arise from almost any activity, and once it does so, it is launched on a long road of exploration, invention, freedom to the limits of extravagance, interference to the point of frustration, finally discipline, controlling constant change and growth. -Susanne Langer
Happy Monday Y'all! Finally feeling like I there is a truce or more adept working method with the Winsor & Newton Paints & the Dr. Ph. Martin's Hydrus. Yay for vibrant colors & workable paints. Happy Friday Y'all!
We don't seem to have the big swaths of seaweed here that I remember from my childhood up North, but the image is still with me & certainly found its way into this painting. Happy Thursday Y'all!
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe stated, "Architecture starts when you carefully put two bricks together. There it begins." I would argue the same is true when you put two paint strokes together. Happy Wednesday Y'all!
It is interesting to me how expansive the Bombay Blue is. It just sprints across the wet paper, whereas the Higgins is much more contained & at times hydrophobic. These painting remind me of clouds or brick walls & I am pleased with that dichotomy. Happy Monday Y'all!
