There are some weeks where no matter how much or how little you paint you get solid results. There are weeks where the opposite is true; this is one of those weeks. However patterns just flowed from pens this week. In light of these events a pattern will be featured today & tomorrow. Today's pattern is very broadly inspired by solar systems & stars. I recently learned about Dark Sky Parks & am particularly intrigued by the concept. It clearly had an impact. I am even considering adding in some more neon pastel shades to make this pattern more emulative. Let me know what you think in the comments. These items & more are available in my society6 shop.
Yesterday I worked on a pattern & it did not resolve. This morning I worked on it more in the hopes that after sleeping my brain would have come up with the solution. No such luck. Sometimes this happens. My good friend Lydia Makepeace wrote an excellent post last month about how you have to make a lot of ugly art (it doesn't mean you have to share it). But you do have to make it. So I chalk the past 24 hours of pattern struggle up to the learning process and present you with arrow trees, a common motif, but one I have not yet attempted (also not the atrocious pattern I have been working on for the past 24h).
All of these trees are growing towards the Atlantic Ocean. The pattern their branches makes is reminiscent of the estuarial waters surrounding the island they inhabit. I love the repetitiousness of forms in nature. Happy Monday Y'all!

While I do not think this painting is great yet, the idea of these words greatly appeals to me, as they clearly articulate my modis operandi of repetitive mark/printmaking. Happy Tuesday Y'all! |
