Wild Parrots

I love the wild parrots!
This is a very controversial statement to make in LA, where the racket of these birds roosting by friends homes is a sore spot. I do not live in proximity to a rookery, and encounter the parrots at the height of golden hour when they head home. Their sound is loud, but not like passing ambulance sirens. It causes me to look up from reading and away from the computer. It is a natural noise, in the manufactured landscape. The parrots are an indicator of this other life that continues in other rhythms, a life that adheres to something other than a syllabus. The parrots cacophony is a delightful alarm clock going off and reminding me to delight in the changing of the light.
The wild parrots also remind me of Mary Olivers' Wild Geese:
You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting -
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

May you experience the delight of having your place in the family of things announced.

People often ask, "How would you describe your work?" I say that I am an abstract landscape painter. This is often met with confused looks. I think this painting in tandem with the video clip below adequately encompassses this concept.
I employed only at Winsor & Newton Water Colour Marker to do this painting. And while I still prefer my brush it was good to see that enough pigment is dispersed to allow for a salt reaction.

Documented Moments

Watching the pelicans soar along the treeline over the beach is so fun! There are larger flocks that cause everyone out there to pause & watch them ride the currents. My father is convinced that they are just out there having fun! Another things that was unusual to observe was a confluence of waters. Johnson Creek meets the Atlantic ocean. Somedays it is mellow & other times the waters churn dependent on tide & rainfall. It is wonderful to observe. Happy Tuesday Y'all!

We had gorgeous sky yesterday, particularly around sunrise & sunset. I experienced the sunrise while driving over the off-island bridge; there was definitely green in the sky!? It was beautiful! The picture on the right does not do it justice, but I am including it for documentation sake. The panorama was taken at sunset with an early rising moon. Again there was so much visible spectrum and the most delightful pink colors happened just moments later. Depicted are the buffleheads are swimming in a strikingly pink world. MAy your day be filled with such beauty. Happy Monday Y'all!

Inland Seagulls

The seagulls came inland just before the polar vortex. It made no sense. The water was exceedingly calm, and the cold air was pushing out to the sea. What were those birds thinking, moving closer to the wind & cold. Seems counterintuitive...  But it was fun to film them. I hope their sound gives you a pleasant hot summer beach memory to help combat those frigid temps. Happy Wednesday Y'all!

I have been camping for the past two days at Hunting Island State Park. It is beautiful out there. I was captivated by many things, which I will share with you in the coming days. First to be highlighted is the sea foam. I have never seen such large collections of it. The way it danced along the shore line was particularly intriguing. Hope your week is going well! Happy Tuesday Y'all!

There is something in the way the light hits the tree trunks that I absolutely love.
