This series continues to intrigue me & I find myself learning more about the manipulation of the paint. I love that that practice provides knowledge & continue to get lost in the mini-universes that form in the making of these paintings. If you are interested in more things art & practice related check out this video by Sarah Urist Green. She illustrates the importance of intent in art. Happy Friday Y'all!

To cherish what remains of the Earth and to foster its renewal is our only legitimate hope of survival. -Wendell Berry
Everytime I acquire a new paint color it changes the work, this time I think for the better. Juniper Green is a Dr. Ph. Martin Radiant Watercolor that makes its debut in this Aerial View #9. I love the vibrancy & luminosity it adds. As summer quickly approaches in the LowCountry colors get more pronounced with deeper contrast: the almost black of deep shade & the almost white of bright sky. Perhaps my work will follow that trajectory too. Only time will tell. Happy Wednesday Y'all!
All of these trees are growing towards the Atlantic Ocean. The pattern their branches makes is reminiscent of the estuarial waters surrounding the island they inhabit. I love the repetitiousness of forms in nature. Happy Monday Y'all!
Most mornings I read an article or two in The New York Times before I start work on the blog post for the day. This gets my brain engaged & raises my cognitive awareness from nil to semi-cogent. This mornings article A Passage to India about Isla Van Damme a.k.a. Loulou reminded me of Karen Blixen & her stories, most notably Out of Africa. Both of these women have a strong sense of place that is clearly reflected in their work. While my 20's were spent in a distinct peregrination, I am now coming up on four years of living in one place. Shocking especially as it is a place I never thought I would live. And by never I mean the thought NEVER crossed my mind that I would be living on an island off the coast of South Carolina. However I am thankful & think that these current Aerial Views are a direct result from living here & spending time immersed in maritime forest & tidal waterways. Yay for the Lowcountry! Happy Friday Y'all!
I get lost in all of the little universes that happen in the salt & paint interactions. Happy Thursday Y'all!
Sometimes you just have to paint & leave the talking about/ figuring out to the critics (everybody's a critic) & art historians. I think that is what I am doing with this series. Since I resolved the incongruencies between the Winsor & Newton and Dr. Ph. Martin's I have very little to say on the matter of these paintings. I am thoroughly enjoying the process of making them & don't want to complicate it by over-analysis. So with that I will say the rest of the week might just be paintings & no words... we will see. Happy Wednesday Y'all!

In human life, art may arise from almost any activity, and once it does so, it is launched on a long road of exploration, invention, freedom to the limits of extravagance, interference to the point of frustration, finally discipline, controlling constant change and growth. -Susanne Langer
